THE LONG BLACK FIG FAIR OF CAROMB –Sunday, July 11th 2010
PROGRAM OF THE FAIR
9am: Opening of the stands : 95 exhibitors - fig producers, fig-nursery gardeners, art craftsmen, artists, gourmet craftsmen, wine-growers, olive-growers, books on figs, etc.
For gourmet exhibitors : contest of the most original fig-based product
For painter artist exhibitors - open to all: a contest of the most original fig-theme painting
Fig jam and fig preserve contest on Place du Château (9am-5pm) : prize awarded by a jury and prize awarded for the publics’ choice.
Provencal music by Le Condor d’Arles group
10am: Welcoming of different Fig Brotherhoods by the Caromb Long Black Fig Brotherhood on Place du Cabaret. Welcoming of other Brotherhoods from Vaucluse.
10.45am: Inauguration of the 4th Fig Fair on Place Nationale with the welcoming of VIPs and the public
11.15am: The Caromb Long Black Fig Brotherhoods’ meeting with VIP enthronements. Provencal Hymn “Coupo Santo”.
11.45am: Brotherhood and VIP Parades
12.30: A welcome drink hosted by the Domaine Chaumard -Place Nationale
All day: For children (2 Euros charge per child for a pass for the day (to be bought at the Tourism Office)
Games made of wood for children (small and big) on rue André de Richaud
The Small Farm (Ferme de l’Oiselet – Sarrians)
Workshop of dye-producing plants – learning and making of an object to take home. Make-up stalls (3pm to 6pm)
Diverse quizzes and contests: the winners will be proclaimed at 6pm
Stand held by former shire inhabitants dressed in traditional attire
Pack-saddled donkeys from Provence will amble through the village
Street-theatre by “La Chourmo dis Afouga” – Pernes-les-Fontaines
Tombolas : immediate wins and Electrical bicycle win (result at 6pm)
At the Grey Penitents’ Chapel:
Exhibition of remarkable objects made by Provencal artist Virginie Peyre
Exhibition of picture works of art on the fig theme (see contests above)
Exhibition of traditional dresses of the Comtat Venaissin
3pm-6.00pm: Taste and Flavour demonstrations by Escoffier disciples on Place du Château :
Demonstration on the making of fig recipes by six chefs and confectioners
4.00pm: Contest of the best fig-based foodstuff open to the VIPs
4.30pm: Guided visit of the village by a lecturer from the CoVe
6.00pm: Results of the different contests: painting, gastronomy, jam, weighing of a filled basket, etc…
Reception of the Chefs and Confectioners of the Taste and Flavour demonstrations
6:30pm: Aperitif offered by the Domaine Chaumard on Place Nationale
Free shuttle: last departure at 7:15pm
